About The Studio
In 1992, Gordon moved to New York where she founded Pure Energy Martial Arts. She started with just a few students in her home. Today she teaches students of all ages and abilities and her school has become a neighborhood institution in Park Slope, Brooklyn.

About Master Gordon
Originally from Toronto, Canada, Master Tessa Gordon holds a 6th degree black belt in the Korean art of Tae Kwon Do. Gordon was a member of the 1988 Canadian Olympic Team, nine-time Canadian National Champion, World Championship Medalist and Pan American Champion. Today, Gordon has been practicing Tae Kwon Do for over 35 years.

As a young child, Gordon began training in basic kicking and punching techniques at home. As her progress and enjoyment of the art became evident, her parents enrolled her in the Jong Park Institute of Tae Kwon Do. She found the discipline required for traditional training incredibly demanding both emotionally and physically. Yet with the encouragement of her parents, she continued to train.

As Gordon advanced in rank, she began to fall in love with art of Tae Kwon Do. Tae Kwon Do became her way of life. By the age of 12, she was a black belt. At the age of 13, and for the next three years beginning in 1980, Gordon was rated Canada’s number one female point fighter in open competition where all martial arts are represented. She was the youngest woman point fighter in Canada fighting in the adult women’s division. She was also the first Canadian, male or female, to be included among the top ten fighters rated in the North American Karate Circuit.

In 1985, Canadian women were chosen to compete in the world Tae Kwon Do Championships for the first time. Gordon was one of the first chosen for the team and was a Canadian National Team member from 1985-1988. Some of the highlights of her many accomplishments around the world include winning the bronze medal at the 1985 World Champion ships in Seoul, Korea, the gold medal at the 1986 Pan American Games in Quayaquil, Ecuador, silver medal at the 1987 World Championships in Barcelona, Spain and the silver medal at the 1988 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru. Her most valued experience, however, was competing for Canada in the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, Korea.
